The Kirklees Top 100 Companies is a joint venture between the University of Huddersfield, Kirklees Council, the Huddersfield Examiner and the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, and sponsored by Cityfibre, to help raise the profile of Kirklees’ businesses and the district as an attractive destination for inward investment, business start-up, scale-up and growth.

The format uses a consistent set of metrics to establish the rankings of the Kirklees Top 100, through a combination of turnover, profit, employee numbers and growth, based on the methodology used by the York Top 100 which inspired this initiative. This enables an objective method of producing the listing from publicly available information from company accounts. Businesses must have a registered office in Kirklees.

The Kirklees Top 100 Companies list is produced and published annually every Autumn to gauge business growth across the region.

Since its launch, the initiative has helped strengthen bonds within the Kirklees business community through collaborative opportunities and sharing best practice. It has also been used as a platform to inspire training and careers opportunities for young people, as well as brought together a Talent Group of HR professionals to compare notes on hybrid working, apprenticeships and graduate development.
